I wish I could talk

Interactive candle powered installation

by Daniel Lacey-McDermott 2011

This piece revolves around a single candle witch the system monitors and uses to generate procedural music. When the system has seen the candle burn brightly for some time, it feels confident enought to start playing with the flame. Using a small fan it blows short puffs at the candle with increasing duration and intensity until the light becomes so dim that the system is worried the candle may have gone out. If the candle does go out the system merely sits and waits, letting out occasional wimpers in hope that somebody will relight the candle.
